Result

Calculating the example…

Enter exactly three octal digits to read the owner, group and other permissions. Use the result to check a file or directory mode before applying it.

Example: 640 means owner read/write, group read and no permissions for others: rw-r-----. For a directory, execute means search/traversal rather than running a program.

Only modes 000–777 are accepted. Special bits, ACLs, ownership and umask are outside this converter. A directory also needs search permission on its parent path.
